Visiting Loro Parque is definitely one of the best things to do in Tenerife; it is located in Puerto de la Cruz, in the northern coast of the Island. TripAdvisor recognized Loro Parque as the best zoological park in the world through its annual Travellers’ Choice.
The German entrepreneur Wolfgang Kiessling and his father opened the Loro Parque in 1972; at the beginning it hosted 150 parrots and offered the first show in Europe with these birds; nowadays it has the biggest collection of parrots in the world; here we find more than 300 different spiecies, some of which in danger of extinction.
A part from that you can also find many species of mammals, birds, fishes and reptiles; furthermore you can see fantastic shows of orcas, dolphins, sea lions and birds several times a day. Loro Parque has set different records, for example the dolphin show pool is the largest in Europe; another one is the underwater tunnel passing through the aquarium with sharks and other fishes; this is the longest in the old continent.
The Loro Parque Foundation aims to protect and save animals in danger of extinction; for this reason they built the biggest pinguinarium in the world with over 250 pinguins. A virtual tour of the amazing Loro Parque is available clicking here on this link.
